Well as the title suggest, I did find the time (more the motivation really...) to take pics of the other 1/48's I received.
I still love that line and scale, but, getting a bit bothered with the overall quality of the figures. I mean they have to be handled with great care, otherwise they will just crumble. It's a real shame, as they are so cool, you really feel like transforming them, change their poses all the time. But they unfortunately are not that kind of figure. The more I own, the more I'm aware of their flaws. They really are a mixture of figure and model. Not toys though. I think a lot of people get it completely wrong to think of them as such. Especially all the Transformers fans that are dreaming of a Masterpiece Jetfire....They are the worse. Used to handling TF's and assume the 1/48 VF is just like any other figure. Generally they are the people who end up with really beaten up VF. After painting them to look like Jetfire, the poor Macross 1/48 usually end up worse for wear...
The 1/48 would've been one of (if not THE) best VF incarnation if more parts had been cast in metal. All the hinges and flaps etc could've really done with being more solid. And a thicker plastic used. Then yes, you would've been able to transform them more often without risking a break or cracked piece. A real shame.
As they stand, they are just for 'show'. They look amazing on display but that' pretty much it!!
Yamato is/was a small company, but imo they should've continued the way they started with the 1/60 Ver 1. Die-cast parts etc. But no..they went the other way, tried to get as much money as possible from fans, giving them cheap plastic for their hard earned $$ instead. I mean why couldn't they produce a 1/48 as solid as the Queadluun-Rau or 1/12 Votoms??? The answer is simple, Macross fans just buy whatever they are served with..Yamato knew this from the start. They lured their potential market with their 1st line, die-cast galore etc..then once hooked they just ditched the expensive materials and just went for the cheap alternative...
So we are still far from having a modern version of the king of kings...the good old 1/55..
Come one Bandai, stop reissuing them, get off your f'ing ass and give us THE perfect VF!!
Anyway, I still have about 4 I'd like to get in that scale. Then I'll give the Yamato 1/48 a break.
The way I rant about them it seems I dislike them, far from it. I do love these figures, but, I collect toys...and well these are not toys. Just built up model kits with some screws to hold the pieces together. I WANT VF's I can 'Play' with!!
I've decided to start getting some Macross Frontier DX Bandai toys.
Having never owned any before, I still have a feeling that they are more toy-like and at least have some die-cast content.
Then..NO MORE Macross..Finish!!! I get back to my vintage stuff and a few SOC's I've been meaning to pick up!!
Right it's like I'm talking to myself here as no one ever reads these posts so..I'll stop for now!
